For the first time in the Center for Civic Engagement’s history, a physical location is on the horizon! In the spring of 2017, the CCE will be opening its doors to a brand new physical space.
If you’ve ever walked down Oak Street, you may have noticed an old US Army Reserve military base in between the Netherlands and the Hebrew Academy of Nassau County. This base, now permanently closed, has been purchased by Hofstra University and will house the Center for Civic Engagement starting next semester.
The CCE will have two office spaces as well as a meeting space (meetings for the CCE currently take place in the Parlor Room of Hofstra Hall). This will give the directors, fellows and volunteers a space to host events and potentially hold open office hours.
The Center for Civic Engagement will be sharing this space with the Center for Suburban Studies and the Department of Continuing Education.
So keep an eye out for the reveal of the official Center for Civic Engagement in the spring of 2017! We are excited to be able to finally move into our location, and we hope you are excited too! Follow the Center on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for the most updated information on the new space and our events.
